JobTrain is proud to be collaborating on East Palo Alto’s RV Safe Parking Pilot Program which will allow people to park their RVs overnight while receiving support services, with the goal of moving the people into transitional housing.
East Palo Alto nonprofit Project WeHope, which provides shelter and services to homeless persons, will manage the program. The site will have portable toilets, security, meals at Project WeHope’s gym, and laundry and shower services through WeHope’s Dignity on Wheels mobile van.
The parking program will prioritize East Palo Alto families, the elderly, disabled persons and veterans, staff said. Persons in the program will have an entry pass to the lot, which will be checked upon entry.
The security house (pictured left) was built by the students in JobTrain’s Carpentry Pre-Apprentice Program which teaches carpentry and construction skills. Students constructed the building from scratch, including framing, insulation, drywall, roofing, flooring, window installation and even painting!
JobTrain is a strong community supporter and hopes that this pilot program will offer safety and stability to the 30+ individuals and families who have already been identified as living in RVs full time in East Palo Alto.
